The East County San Diego Region covers a large portion of the Eastern areas. It is so large, it has a vertical boundary with South Bay San Diego, Central San Diego (i.e. Downtown) , and North Central San Diego. It is sandwiched between the US-Mexico Border on the South, and continues north until Lakeside. Considered to be an affordable alternative to the city of San Diego, many residents enjoy larger land plots than their center Sandiegans because land constraints were not an issue when this area was developed. Many ranch and farmland properties can still be found in the fringe areas. To add to the diversity of the area, custom and luxury homes can be found on the many hillsides of the area too.

The city of El Cajon is the largest city in East County San Diego. It is a city that is on a flat basin among the hills, hence it”s popularity in real estate developments. Many local Indian Reservations can be found in this area. Within the last 20 years, the American Indian tribes were allowed to open and operate casinos on their designated land. In East County, the major casinos are Sycuan, Viejas, Jamul, and Barona.

During the colder seasons in San Diego, residents travel to the eastern parts of East County to enjoy the snow in the local mountains, namely Mount Laguna. Sandiegans can boast being able to go from the ocean to snow in about 45 minutes because of the geographical diversity of the county.
