San Diego Metro can best be described as the heart and soul of San Diego county, as well as being the most central district of the county.

The downtown district of San Diego is well known for it's numerous street districts like the Marina, East village, Gas Lamp, Cortez Hill, Little Italy, and Horton Plaza. This is the financial district of San Diego as well as a major port for the US Naval Fleet. Across the San Diego bay is the city of Coronado which is home to the historical Hotel Del Coronado.

Just north of downtown San Diego are the areas of Hillcrest, North Park, and slightly east is Kennsington and Talmadge.

Just inland a couple miles is the Mission Valley area. It has 2 major shopping malls as well as Qualcomm Stadium, which is home of the San Diego Chargers. The Linda Vista, San Carlos, Kearny Mesa, and Tierrasanta communities are highly sought after areas because they are centrally located for northern and southern San Diego. La Mesa is on the eastern edge and is on a mesa flat above Mission Valley.

Along the west coast are the beach communities of La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and Ocean Beach. La Jolla is the premium area among the beach communities because of its beautiful ocean cliffs, and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. The campus of University of California San Diego (UCSD) also calls La Jolla home. To the south is Pacific Beach and this community is mostly known for it's nightlife of bar and eateries as well as having miles of sandy beaches for its residents. The iconic Mission Beach is south of Pacific Beach and it is the main toursist area of the beach communties. Across the Mission Bay outlet is Ocean Beach. It is an area that is popular among the locals of San Diego because of it's physical separation from the tourists.

The northern edge of San Diego Metro is Mira Mesa and Scripps Ranch. These areas offer a diverse community because the high technology/biosciences/pharacuticals of San Diego are concentrated here. In additon, the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (MCAS) is just south of the area. In effect you have many military and professionals calling eachother "neighbor", which drives up demand for housing in both forms of home ownership and rentals.
